About Us

Our Mission:

To be the unquestioned leader in sun protection for golfers

Our Story:

Created by a family of outdoor enthusiasts, Players Shield Natural Sunscreen was derived from an earlier product aimed at keeping anglers safe from sun damage during their long days on the water while protecting the health of fish and the environment. As time went on the product was further developed to meet the needs of the underserved golf market. Finally, a sunscreen for golfers!

Kathy Schuerman has always had an interest and passion in skin care and sun safety. As she and her husband raised their family, their seven children played every sport under the sun which required the family to spend hours exposed to the sun at sporting events. With a family of Irish and German heritage, the fight against skin cancer was all too real. Kathy’s mother had melanoma removed from her face and several aunts had basal cell cancers removed. When her daughter developed melasma, a skin condition from sun exposure, her desire in developing a
safe, natural sunscreen became even more imperative.

Kathy partnered with family friend, Brandon Lucas who LOVES GOLF, and also grew up playing every sport conceivable. Being the son of a mother living with Lupus, creating a natural sunscreen was a necessity. Inspired by their family histories of troubled skin health, together Kathy and Brandon launched Players Shield in 2020.

Fun Fact: Brandon carded a hole-in-way prior to his first birdie.

At Players Shield, we pride ourselves on our commitment to raising awareness of sun safe behaviors and skin cancer prevention in the global golf world. Currently, between 2 and 3 million non-melanoma skin cancers and 132,000 melanoma skin
cancers occur globally each year. One in every three cancers diagnosed is a skin cancer and, according to Skin Cancer Foundation Statistics, one in every five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers.

Our outreach includes building relationships with golf professionals to leverage their influence with their peers and players of all ages and skill levels. We proudly sponsor colligate and high school golf teams. Skin cancer prevention non-profit organizations around the world provide communities with a wealth of helpful information. Our goal with all of these endeavors is to increase awareness of the risks and prevention of sun exposure. Practicing sun-safe behaviors is so important for golfers and everyone who spend leisure time outdoors.  Skin cancer is the world’s most common cancer and the most preventable cancer.
